First Peebles in area coming to Mt. Vernon's Southwind Plaza
Mt. Vernon, Indiana’s Southwind Plaza will be home to a new Peebles Department Store, according to Regency Properties’ Director of Development, Jim Wittman.
Peebles is part of a national chain of 685 stores operating in 35 states. The stores offer moderately priced, nationally recognized brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear for the entire family. It joins Southwind Plaza’s anchor stores, Wesselman’s, Pamida and Dollar General stores at the 83,566 sq. ft. property located on U.S. Highway 62 on the town’s east side.
“Peebles is a wonderful addition to the shopping offered at Southwind Plaza,” said Wittman. “It gives the Mt. Vernon community and Posey County a convenient, high quality department store right in the neighborhood.”
The Peebles store will occupy a 13,000 sq. ft. space formerly used by a laundromat and a hardware store. The company has finalized a 10 year lease on the space, indicating their long-term commitment to the community.
Regency Properties bought and renovated the Southwind Plaza shopping center in 2007.
Regency also announced that Peebles Department Store has committed to a new space in West County Marketplace in Adamsville, Alabama. A 10 year lease was signed with Specialty Retailers, Inc. for a 17,500 sq. ft. store.
Regency, whose home office is in Evansville, owns and manages commercial properties in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama and South Carolina. For over 50 years, the company has specialized in maximizing the consumer shopping experience in middle-American county-seat communities.
